Poem: Hiatus of Sleep

Pexels.com

Why is the best sleep

right in the morning?

Awakened by a beeping

like a truck in reverse

to dreary weighted clouds

and patterned raindrops weeping

lulling unfinished misted

premature dreams

surfacing like ancient whales

from the depths of velvet slumber.

Sleep is the best comfort and medicine

but my nights are unusually long

half awake brain marbled

with unresolved troubles

worry and stress have taken

at least a thousand years

of wasted time spent.

My soul needs a detox cleanse

and a vacation.
