Poem : Stolen

This land was always free

not for sale

no one’s property

Space was shared with plants and animals,

when we still knew, we were animals,

walking upright didn’t make us Gods

but aristocrats claimed divinity

Took authority of the earth

In eminent domain

Raped and pillaged innocence

Killed the trees, the deep medicine,

Killed the animals our spiritual cousins,

Killed the original people,

Erased their culture in internment camps that they called school,

To brainwash them to hate themselves and the wisdom of their heritage.

Killed the nature gods to replace them with an angry father patriarch

for land that was never theirs

a land that was without fences, walls, gates, borders.
